Why agent-optimized tools matter
Built for intent, not API schemas
Ask the agent to "find the open opportunities for Acme and create a follow-up task." Arcade picks the right Insightly tools without guessing organization or opportunity IDs.
Up to 100x fewer tokens
Insightly searches return matching records in the account's default order, while record details and activity are fetched only when needed, so the agent avoids loading every deal, contact, and task.
Complete the workflow end to end
Find an organization, inspect its open opportunities, read recent activity, create a follow-up task, and advance the deal stage through one toolkit designed around the complete sales task.
Make actions predictable and controlled
Arcade tools return structured results and useful errors across users and runs. Teams can apply scope restrictions, redaction, and approval policies so agents follow the same controls every time.
Securing Insightly
The more capabilities agents get, the more useful they are. However, more capabilities bring more risks of undesired effects such as data loss and exfiltration.
This is why Arcade provides you with contextual rules that dictate how and when a tool is allowed to run. Arcade’s contextual access lets you govern tool visibility and behavior at every stage of execution and control who can see a tool, what inputs are allowed, and what comes back.
Learn about Contextual Access PoliciesFor Insightly, you can implement some of these policies:
- Hide Insightly.ConvertLead from agents unless the roles your IDP marks as sales managers are active, so an agent cannot turn an unqualified lead into a contact or organization.
- Restrict Insightly.SaveOpportunity to agents operating under your deal-owner or sales-operations role, so unapproved automation cannot change deal stages or mark opportunities won or lost.
- Deny Insightly.SaveTask to agents outside the roles your IDP marks as team leads, so they cannot create assignments for other users or alter delivery work without authority.
- Require human approval before Insightly.CreateNote runs, so an agent cannot permanently attach an inaccurate or confidential note to a customer record.
- Block Insightly.SaveContact when the request contains personal data outside your approved CRM fields, so an agent cannot write sensitive details into contact records.
- Require human approval before Insightly.SaveProject changes a project stage or creates a project, so an agent cannot alter delivery commitments without review.
- Redact phone numbers, personal email addresses, and home addresses from Insightly.GetContact results before they reach the model.
- Strip note bodies and task descriptions from Insightly.GetRecordActivity results, leaving record identifiers, stages, and dates without exposing private customer context.
- Redact email addresses, phone numbers, and other personal profile fields from Insightly.ListUsers results, so the model receives user identities without private contact details.
How to use Insightly with your agent
Pick your MCP client below and follow the setup to connect Insightly through Arcade. Configure the shared API key once, then let your agent use the available CRM actions.
Your questions, answered
An Insightly MCP server exposes Insightly CRM capabilities as structured tools that an AI agent can call through the Model Context Protocol. With the required API key or secret, an agent can search and update leads, contacts, organizations, opportunities, projects, tasks, and notes.
Insightly does not provide the first-party MCP endpoint described here. Arcade provides the MCP gateway, shared-credential handling, approval workflows, redaction, and controlled access to Insightly actions from supported clients.
Arcade agents can search and retrieve leads, contacts, organizations, opportunities, projects, tasks, and notes; create or update those records; convert qualified leads; assign work; log notes; advance deal and project stages; and summarize open work and pipeline value. They cannot perform arbitrary Insightly operations outside these actions.
Arcade uses the shared Insightly API key or secret configured for the integration. Insightly permissions available to the agent are the permissions granted to that credential; this setup does not use separate per-user OAuth scopes.
No. This integration uses one shared API key or secret configured once, rather than each user connecting a separate Insightly account. Arcade brokers the credential, and the model never receives it.
Yes. Contextual Access policies can require human approval before consequential Insightly actions such as converting a lead, creating or updating records, changing an opportunity or project stage, or creating a task or note. The call proceeds only after the policy conditions are satisfied.
Arcade proxies Insightly API calls and does not persist your Insightly content as part of normal tool execution. The API key or secret is brokered and stored encrypted at rest, and the model never receives the credential.
Any framework or client that can connect to Arcade's MCP gateway or tool APIs works, including LangChain, OpenAI Agents, CrewAI, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Visual Studio Code, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and GitHub Copilot.
There is no per-user OAuth refresh for this shared-key integration. If the Insightly key or secret is revoked, rotated, or can no longer be used, calls stop until the credential is reconfigured.
Insightly's API rate limits and account-level restrictions still apply to calls made through Arcade. The integration does not remove those limits; plan workloads around the limits attached to the configured Insightly credential and account.
