Google Search MCP Tools for AI Agents

Let an agent search Google, retrieve organic results, and use them to ground answers and research.

Available Tools

2 tools available in this integration

GoogleSearch.Search

Search Google using SerpAPI and return organic search results.

GoogleSearch.SearchWebPages

Search Google and return the organic results, each with its title, link and snippet.

Why agent-optimized tools matter

Built for intent, not API schemas

Ask the agent to "find the best documentation for integrating OAuth with Python and return the top links." Arcade chooses the right search path without making the model manage provider-specific request details.

Up to 100x fewer tokens

Google Search returns lightweight organic-result metadata such as titles, links, and snippets, so the agent can compare sources without loading full web pages into the model.

Complete the workflow end to end

Search the web, compare organic results, select relevant links, return titles and snippets, and cite sources through one toolkit designed around the complete web-search task.

Make actions predictable and controlled

Arcade tools return structured results and useful errors across users and runs. Teams can apply scope restrictions, redaction, and approval policies so agents follow the same controls every time.

Securing Google Search

The more capabilities agents get, the more useful they are. However, more capabilities bring more risks of undesired effects such as data loss and exfiltration.

This is why Arcade provides you with contextual rules that dictate how and when a tool is allowed to run. Arcade’s contextual access lets you govern tool visibility and behavior at every stage of execution and control who can see a tool, what inputs are allowed, and what comes back.

Learn about Contextual Access Policies

For Google Search, you can implement some of these policies:

Access when tools are listed for a user
  • Decide which tools an agent is allowed to see at all. A tool that is never listed cannot be called, whoever is asking.
Pre-execution before each tool call
  • Inspect the inputs a call is about to run with, and block it or send it for human approval when they fall outside what the agent should do unsupervised.
Post-execution after the tool returns
  • Redact phone numbers and email addresses from GoogleSearch.Search results before they reach the model, so a broad query cannot expose personal contact details.

How to use Google Search with your agent

Connect Google Search to your MCP client with a shared API key, then call it from your agent. Follow the walkthrough end to end to get your first search running.

Your questions, answered

A Google Search MCP server exposes web search as structured actions an AI agent can call through the Model Context Protocol. The agent can submit a query and receive organic Google results, including titles, links, and snippets.

This integration is not a Google first-party MCP server. Arcade provides the runtime around Google Search access, including a shared credential, MCP and tool API access, approval policies, redaction, and controls that work across supported clients.

Arcade agents can search Google and return organic search results. They can also return each result's title, link, and snippet for tasks such as research, comparison, and finding relevant documentation.

Google Search uses one shared API key or secret configured for the integration. It does not require each user to grant Google account permissions or OAuth scopes; access is limited by what the configured credential can reach.

No. Users do not connect separate Google Search accounts for this integration. One shared API key or secret is configured once, brokered by Arcade, and used for permitted search calls.

Yes. Contextual Access policies can require human approval before a Google Search call, although the available actions are read-only searches that return results rather than changing external data. The call proceeds only after the policy's conditions are satisfied.

Arcade proxies Google Search API calls and does not persist search content as part of normal tool execution. The shared API key or secret is brokered and stored encrypted at rest, and the model never receives it.

Any framework or client that can connect to Arcade's MCP gateway or tool APIs works, including LangChain, OpenAI Agents, CrewAI, Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, Visual Studio Code, Microsoft Copilot Studio, and GitHub Copilot.

Arcade can continue refreshing or using access while the configured credential remains valid. If the API key or secret is revoked, rotated, expired, or can no longer be used, searches stop until the credential is reconnected or reconfigured.

Searches remain subject to SerpAPI and Google-related provider quotas, account limits, and request-rate limits associated with the configured credential. Exact limits depend on the provider account and plan rather than on Arcade.
